Helmets

Harley-Davidson® Helmets: It's True: A Motorcycle Helmet Can Save Your Life!

To be blunt, you are fooling yourself if you don't believe a helmet can save your life. Study after study has proven that motorcycle helmets save lives. Please don't fight these stats. Biking accidents have a way of ruining your day. Scrapes, cuts, bruised elbows and egos, a cast on the ankle, not to mention a bike in need of repair – accidents are not fun. And then there’s the dealing with the bad memories of an accident, if you are alive to actually remember. Fortunately, we live in a time where polycarbonate technology has developed to a point where motorcycle helmets are nearly indestructible in the process of protecting the head. They will go a long way in saving your life when called upon to do so.

We have all the helmet styles that you need –Full Face, Half Face, Open Face, ¾ Face, Modular, and other Helmet Accessories. Each style has its advantages and disadvantages. For urban environments, looks for more open helmets where vision is least restricted. For the highway and freeway, side vision is less important, so full face and modular helmets are probably better.

Here is what the CDC says, in part, about wearing a motorcycle helmet. If you are not a believer please read:

"Motorcycle crash deaths are costly, but preventable. The single most effective way for States to save lives and save money is a universal helmet law.

-Helmets reduce the risk of death by 37%.

-Helmets reduce the risk of head injury by 69%.

Our role is to identify ways to prevent injury and death and rigorously check what works and what does not work. For motorcycle safety, the research shows that universal helmet laws are the most effective way to reduce the number of deaths and traumatic brain injuries that result from crashes.”  –Dr. Thomas Frieden, former CDC Director

Follow this 4-step protocol for helmet safety:

    1. Make sure your helmet still fits you
    2. Look for signs of damage, like dents, worn-out interior surfaces
    3. After 3-5 years of routine wear, it should probably be replaced
    4. Wear a helmet, not matter what the state law says
